Introduce the student to the responsibility of driving and specific rules and restrictions for each stage. Lessons are structured to allow the new driver time to develop responsible driving behavior at each stage before moving on to the next level until eventually full driving experience is reached.

5 HOUR CLASS PRE-LICENSING COURSE

A 5 Hours Pre-Licensing Course must be completed for all NYS permit holders before a road test examination is scheduled.

Services are provided based on the students experience and understanding of driving. We specialize in beginners and nervous students. Our office staff assist students in choosing the appropriate service catering to the individual needs. Our driving instructors execute precise teaching methods and understand each student has different driving skills.

For a student who is age 16 or 17, a Certificate of Supervised Driving(DMV form MV-262) must be completed by the student and signed by a parent or legal guardian.

ROAD TEST APPOINTMENT

Normally the test will be approximately three to five weeks from the date you made the appointment. However, during the summer, school breaks and other peak times, the road test waiting period can be as much as 10 weeks. If you are under age 18, you must have six months of valid permit status from the date your permit is issued to the date of your road test. Driver license applicants who have a junior learner permit (DJ or MJ) must present a “Certificate of Supervised Driving” (Form MV-262) to the Motor Vehicles. This is not required if you are age 17 and you have completed driver education and you have a form MV-285 driver education certificate.

CAR FOR ROAD TEST

You must bring a vehicle to drive during the road test provided by Totally Cool Driving School, you must bring a valid 5-hour pre-licensing course MV-278 certificate, your valid photo learners. Your glasses or contacts, if your permit indicates you need corrective lenses. DJ learners permit must present a signed “Certificate of Supervised Driving” (Form MV-262)

  4. Move to the appropriate lane well in advance.
  5. Signal and check the mirrors.
  6. Maintain speed until you enter the exit lane.
  7. Enter the exit ramp and use controlled braking.
  8. Reduce speed to posted speed or less.
  9. Beware and adjust your speed and lane position in preparation for stopping and/or turning.
  10. Checking all mirrors.
